RACE RULES
Entry Qualifications
- The entry fee per class is $65. Please make check payable to Green River Classic.
- There is a 20 team limit per class. Entries processed in the order received.
- Musher starting times will be determined by draw at musher meeting.
Driver
- The driver starting at the beginning of the race shall drive the team throughout the race.
- Driver's meeting 5:30 p.m. Friday Dec. 28.

Dogs
- All entered dogs must have current Distemper, Parvo, and Rabies vaccinations.
- Proof of these vaccinations must come from a Veterinarian OR, if administered by the driver, records must include type of vaccine, proof of purchase (i.e., receipt), and date of vaccination.
- The twelve dog class team may consist of twelve dogs or less. The six dog class team may consist of six dogs or less.
- No substitution of dropped dogs or addition of alternate dogs allowed on second day racing.
Drugs
- No injectable substances of any kind, no oral or topical drugs that may suppress the signs of illness or injury, or that could enhance performance, may be used on/in a dog or be carried in the sled. A driver may not inject any substance into their dogs.
- Race Giving Organization (RGO) reserves the right to collect urine samples up to one hour before and after the race.
Equipment
- All harnesses shall be padded around the neck and chest areas.
- All dogs shall be harnessed in single or double file.
- Some type of sled shall be drawn.
- Above said sled shall be equipped with an adequate brake, brush bow, and snow hook.
- Above said sled shall include a sled bag capable of restraining a struggling dog, and if necessary, covering a severely injured or dead dog.
- Dog bedding in dog boxes must be Certified
Dual Start Race (6 dog class only)
- The first day's starting positions shall be determined by DRAWING AT MUSHERS MEETING with Numbers 1 and 2 starting together first, Numbers 3 and 4 starting together second, etc.
- The second day's starting positions shall be determined by the first day's times. The finishing list will be divided into two groups, with the fastest team in the faster group starting together with the fastest team in the slower group, followed by the fastest team in each group, etc.
Officiating
- Race Marshal has the final word on any issues that may arise.
- Common sense and good sportsmanship will prevail.
Outside Assistance
- Drivers may not be accompanied or paced by a snowmobile while negotiating the course.
Management and Handling of Dogs
- Cruel and/or inhumane treatment of any dog by any driver is strictly prohibited and will be penalized bydisqualification.
- Use of whips, batons, or ski poles is forbidden.
Passing
- When overtaking another team, the driver shall call "trail." The overtaken team MUST relinquish the trail either by stopping or by slowing down their team.
- When neither of the two or more teams is able to pull away from the other, the drivers shall mutually agree on the appropriate team to lead out.
- In a head-on passing situation, the homeward-bound team has the right of way and the outward-bound team must relinquish the trail.
Lost Team
- In the event of a lost team, the team will not be disqualified if the driver regains control of the team, provided the team and driver complete the race trail.
Weather and Trail Conditions
- The Race Marshal assumes responsibility for any postponement or alteration. The primary consideration will be the safety and well being of the dogs, not the comfort of the driver.
Refunds
- Any entrant who withdraws prior to December 15 will receive $40.00 refund.
- No refunds as of December 15, 2007.
Bibs
- Drivers will wear their race bibs visible from the front and rear throughout the race.
- Bibs must be returned to RGO after the conclusion of the race.
Race Location
- 12-Dog race is 28 miles/day
- 6-Dog race is 14 miles/day
- Junior Mushers 2-3 miles/day
- Start/Finish is at parking area at Bridger-Teton National Forest parking lot on Hwy 352, 25 miles north of Cora.
Race Start Times
- Race starts 9 am each morning-12 dog class first 2 minute interval
- Dual start for 6-dog 2-minute interval
- Junior Class - 1 minute interval
